Since it was the Fifth Sunday, our wonderful branch presidency taught a combined Relief Society/Priesthood lesson. They chose to review some key General Conference talks. Some highlights:
- Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "Because of Your Faith" - While we sustain and pray for general authorities, they too sustain and pray for us.
- Missionary work was addressed at length in Conference.
- Elder M. Russell Ballard, "O That Cunning Plan of the Evil One" - A warning against excesses and that addiction can be to things like entertainment and technology.
- Agency, "The Three Rs of Choice" (President Thomas S. Monson)
- President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Pride and the Priesthood" - Counsel to humble ourselves and be accepting of others.
- Elder Jairo Mazzagardi, "Avoiding the Trap of Sin" - Know your decision before the question comes up.
- President Thomas S. Monson, "The Divine Gift of Gratitude"

Sunday Lesson Recap: "Faith in Jesus Christ"
This week's lesson was Chapter 18 from the Gospel Principles manual - "Faith in Jesus Christ." Some highlights:
- Faith=Trust - we can't trust someone we don't know.
- We can gain faith in Christ by learning about Him and His teachings in the scriptures.
- 1 Nephi 8 - The Vision of the Tree of Life
- Some people partook of the fruit, but their faith failed and they fell away. Other people held fast to the iron rod and made it to the Tree and partook of the fruit.
- The Plan of Salvation takes faith to follow every step of the way - from the pre-existence to our mortal lives here on earth and even in the Spirit World.
- Jesus Christ is the center of the Plan of Salvation and we must have faith in Christ to have success in the plan.
- Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all thing heart and lean not unto thine own understanding
Thanks to Deanna for a great lesson! Next week is the 5th Sunday with the branch presidency.

Sunday Lesson Recap: "Canaries with Gray on Their Wings"
This week's lesson was taken from President Thomas S. Monson's Ensign article "Canaries with Gray on Their Wings." Some highlights:
- One thing that women often struggle with is feelings of self-worth and if we are good enough.
- From President Monson - "The world is filled with yellow canaries with gray on their wings. The pity is that so precious few have learned to sing. Some are young people who don’t know who they are, what they can be or even want to be; all they want is to be somebody."
- 1 Samuel 16:7 - "But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."
- Search for the talents you want to have - try new things and don't fear failure. You might end up finding something that you're brilliant at.
- "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let or own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson
Thanks to Kari for giving this awesome lesson!

Announcements for This Week
We've got a couple of announcements, so here goes -
- Tomorrow (Monday) is FHE. We will be going to the Roper Barn in Fillmore to press apples and have dinner with the Fillmore YSA group. Meet at the church at 4:00 pm and we'll carpool to Fillmore. If you can't make it at 4:00, the activity in Fillmore doesn't start until 5:00 and dinner will be at 6:00, so even if you come late, just come!
- As a heads-up - on the 18th, we'll be carving pumpkins for FHE, so if you run into a good sale on pumpkins, go ahead and get one.
- Also, on the 5th Sunday (October 31), the branch presidency will be going over talks from General Conference, so review the talks between now and then.

Special Post: General Conference
Hey everyone!
Since we had General Conference today, there obviously wasn't a lesson to recap. But I did want to put up a link to LDS.org's new General Conference page if there was something you missed or if you want to review something. I think you'll even be able to download .mp3 files of the talks and listen to them on you iPod (or whatever you use). I actually didn't know they had a new Conference page up, but that was a neat thing to find :)
Also - I had a friend of mine pointed out a page of archived CES Firesides, if anyone's interested. You click on the talk you want and at the bottom of each page is a place where you can download an .mp3 file of the talk. You can also print off the text of the talks, if you'd like to.
Hope you all had a great Conference Weekend!
