Sunday Lesson Recap - Christ's Divine Mission

Well, it's been a couple of weeks, but I'm finally back!  And it's time for our Sunday Lesson Recap!  This week's lesson was a Christmas lesson all about Christ's divine mission and it was given by Deanna.  Some highlights -

- There is not one single sentence to describe what Christ's mission was.  It included the Atonement, organizing His Church, teaching His gospel, showing charity, setting the perfect example for us to follow - the list goes on!

- Moses 1:39 - God's work and glory to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

- Christ is central to God's plan

- Christmas is about celebrating all of Christ's life - not just His birth, but also his life, death, resurrection and mission.

- Without the Savior, there's no reason for anything - no reason to repent, no reason to show charity to others, no reason for the Plan of Salvation.

- "Charity" - from Preach My Gospel

- What are our individual divine missions?
    - They're different for everyone and there's not just one mission to complete.

Sunday Lesson Recap: "Repentance"

This week, our lesson was from the Gospel Principles manual - chapter 19 "Repentance"  Shar gave a great lesson and here are some of the highlights:

- Repentance takes:
  • Great Courage
  • Much Strength
  • Many Tears
  • Unceasing Prayers
  • Untiring Efforts to Live the Commandments
- The Steps of Repentance:
     - A - Admit
     - B - Be Sorry
     - C - Confess
     - C - Correct
     - D - Don't do it again
   And most important:
     - F - Forgive Yourself

- Repentance is really all about the Atonement.  How much do we need the Atonement - even if we haven't sinned.

- People don't always understand the things we've been through, but the Savior does.

- We have every chance and opportunity to repent -  even if we mess up again, we can always do better.  And that's what the Atonement is for.

Annoucements for the Week of Nov. 14

Been off going crazy for the last week, but here's this week's announcements:

Monday - FHE at 7:00 pm at the church.  President Monson will be there and they'll be serving steak and lobster.
(Okay, I'm kidding about President Monson and the lobster.  I'm just taking a cue from Brother DeLoach since no one was sure what we're doing.  But come to the church at 7:00 pm for FHE anyway and be surprised).

Thursday - Relief Society Social at 7:00 pm.  We're calling it a "Pie and Recipe" Night, but you can bring any kind of dish you like for the holidays (not just pies).  Make sure you bring the recipe as well (and if you don't have time to make something, you can just bring your favorite recipe and that's fine).

Just as a heads-up - we'll be having a Relief Society Christmas activity on December 8.  More details to follow.

Some branch activities - we have a temple assignment on December 17-18.  We're scheduled for sealings on the 17th and a session on the 18th.

Since it was the Fifth Sunday, our wonderful branch presidency taught a combined Relief Society/Priesthood lesson.  They chose to review some key General Conference talks.  Some highlights:

- Missionary work was addressed at length in Conference.

- Elder M. Russell Ballard, "O That Cunning Plan of the Evil One" - A warning against excesses and that addiction can be to things like entertainment and technology.

- Agency, "The Three Rs of Choice" (President Thomas S. Monson)

- President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Pride and the Priesthood" - Counsel to humble ourselves and be accepting of others.

- Elder Jairo Mazzagardi, "Avoiding the Trap of Sin" - Know your decision before the question comes up.

- President Thomas S. Monson, "The Divine Gift of Gratitude"

Check out the Church's new Conference website for more talks - print and downloadable mp3s.
